Extreme Heat

According to National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH)Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, heat-related deaths and illnesses are preventable. Despite this fact, approximately 1,220 people in the United States are killed by extreme heat every year.

Heat and Health Initiative Releases Clinical Guidance to Protect Children

Poor and minority children overall experience higher rates of asthma and can suffer disparate impacts from heat. The Heat and Health Initiative has released Clinical Guidance to help health care providers keep at-risk individuals such as children with asthma safe when temperatures rise. 

Heat and Medications – Guidance for Clinicians

The heat and medication information and guidance presented in this document is intended to alert clinicians and patients to the impact that ambient heat may have on patients taking certain medications. This can facilitate the development of a medication plan for hot days.
